Qingdao Hash House Harriers (HHH) are a loose running group. It´s said that they are “Drinkers with a running problem” and it´s all supposed to be a fun event for everyone. The whole thing was started by British officers in Malaysia in the 30s and by now there are over 1500 groups worldwide. In China there are groups in 6 or 7 cities and in Shanghai alone there are 3 groups. The motto of the Hash is:
“To promote physical fitness among our members
To get rid of weekend hangovers
To acquire a good thirst and to satisfy it in beer
To persuade the older members that they are not as old as they feel”
— (taken from a card for Kuala Lumpur Hash in the 50s)
The Qingdao Hash House Harriers (HHH) meets every Saturday usually at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Lobby, unless otherwise specified. In the morning the Hare prepares a trail and marks it with arrows along the path (we use flour for that). Later everyone follows the trail or at least tries to find it (lots of traps and false trails). The Qingdao Hash House Harriers (HHH) group consists of people from China and abroad. Running lasts 60 to 90 minutes and every time is in a different area of Qingdao (so it´s good for newcomers). After every run we sing songs and drink beer together. It´s a fun time and has been around in Qingdao for 5+ years.
